Rebels liberate Idlib province

The Syrian regime has lost control of the Idlib province following swift rebel advances, making it the second province to fall out of the regime’s hands.

Late Thursday, the Army of Conquest coalition of rebels stormed into Ariha, the last sizeable town in the northwest region, sending regime troops fleeing in the direction of the Al-Ghab Plain that straddles the Latakia province to the south.

Casting aside U.S. concerns about aiding extremist groups, Turkey and Saudi Arabia have converged on an aggressive new strategy to bring down Syrian President Bashar Assad.

The two countries — one a democracy, the other a conservative kingdom — have for years been at odds over how to deal with Assad, their common enemy. But mutual frustration with what they consider American indecision has brought the two together in a strategic alliance that is driving recent rebel gains in northern Syria, and has helped strengthen a new coalition of anti-Assad insurgents, Turkish officials say.

Rebels capture six Hezbollah mercenaries in Zebdine

Zebdine‬, ‪‎Damascus‬ province, 04-05-2015: Syrian rebel forces in Zebdine have captured six Hezbollah mercenaries, as well as seizing a quantity of military equipment from the Lebanese militia members.

The Assad regime is now almost wholly reliant on Hezbollah and other Tehran-backed extremist foreign militias to fight for the regime.
