Kurds in Aleppo protest in solidarity with Mahabad against Iran, Assad

May 10, 2015

Afrin‬, ‎Aleppo‬ province, 10-05-2015: Residents of the majority-Kurdish town of Afrin in Aleppo province today staged a protest in solidarity with fellow Kurds in Mahabad in Iran over Iranian security forces' brutal repression of protests in Mahabad and other Kurdish towns and cities in Iran. Protesters in Afrin carried the Free Syrian flag (seen in picture), as well as Kurdish flags, chanting against the Iranian and Assad regimes.

Similar protests are also taking place in Kurdish areas across Iran and Iraq, following the suicide of a Kurdish woman, identified as 25-year-old Farinaz Khosrawani, who reportedly threw herself from a fourth-floor window of a hotel in Mahabad after an IRG officer threatened to rape her. He had reportedly been 'given' the woman, working as a maid there, by the hotel owner in return for his agreement to grant the hotel a five-star rating. Kurdish-Iranian protesters subsequently set the hotel alight, with protests continuing, and over 500 protesters arrested so far, according to the latest reports.
