German politician urges Syrian refugees to report 'war criminals' to hold them accountable

A member of the German Mecklenburg-Vorpommern state parliament and Commissioner for Immigration and Integration Affairs, has called on Syrian refugees to report and expose the regime’s war criminals who found their way into Germany among the ranks of refugees.

Dr. Ibrahim Al-Najjar urges anyone who possesses any information, photographs, videos or evidence that confirm their involvement in militias, torture, killings, or enforced disappearances, to inform the German authorities.

“I call on the Syrians to preserve any relevant documents and present them to immigration offices in German cities, whose duty is to look into these cases and to inform human rights organizations concerned with war crimes, so that these cases can be accurately built according to German law, so that these individual will be tried in German courts, to exact justice for those who suffered at their hands.”

The reports presented by Zaman al-Wasl on the issue would open the files of many of those who received protection and asylum from the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (Ausländerbehörde).

Al-Najjar is personally willing to receive any evidence that document the crimes committed by these individuals in Syria and to inform relevant authorities in order to review their files.

“If it is proven that these individuals have participated in or committed war crimes or crimes against humanity, they would be put on trial and stripped of their asylum status, in accordance with German law.”
