Armed clashes between locals and regime militia in rural Damascus

Armed clashes reportedly broke out shortly after midnight on Wednesday night between young men from Zakia, a town in western rural Damascus governorate, and members of a local militia affiliated with the Assad regime’s infamous Fourth Division.

Syria TV reported that the late night clashes followed an attack by residents of the town on the headquarters of the Fourth Division’s ‘Muawiya Tohme’ militia, who started a fire in the building in retaliation for the murder of a local man, 37-year-old Nazir Sha’ban, by one of the militia’s members.

Following meeting with Russian military chief, SDF head calls on Assad regime to stand with the SDF

Speaking in an interview with the Russia Today channel, Mazloum Abdi, the commander of the US-backed ‘Syrian Democratic Forces’ (SDF) militia said on Sunday that the Assad regime forces’ main concern is protecting the Syrian borders, calling on the regime to take a decision to stand with the SDF in the face of a possible Turkish attack.

The statement and interview followed a meeting between Abdi and the commander of the Russian forces in Syria, Alexander Chayko during a visit by Chayko to the northeastern province of al-Hasakah, on Sunday.

The Yarmouk Palestinian refugee camp, south of the capital, Damascus, suffered the highest number of Palestinian-Syrian fatalities since the outbreak of the Syrian uprising for freedom in Syria 2011.

The news comes in the latest report from the Action Group for the Palestinians of Syria (AGPS).

In an interview with SY24, a spokesperson from the AGPS’ media office said that over a third of the 4,116 Palestinian refugees, 493 of them women, documented killed in various locations across Syria since 2011, died in Yarmouk camp.
